Happy Birthday to Me

The day before my birthday, I was in a slump, I've gotta say.  I was in a reflective mood, and I wasn't finding many happy thoughts floating around my head.  One thing that struck me was that, even though I don't feel old, I don't feel young anymore, either.  When I was young, I was always looking forward to the future.  There were always landmarks in my life that I was anticipating.  But now, I feel like my birthdays don't feel like one step closer to anything exciting.  They just feel like one step farther away from the most exciting times of my life.  I guess this is what "over the hill" really means--even though I'm not!

HOWEVER...

That funky mood couldn't last long, because I had a great birthday.  Here's why:

  • It was Spring Break for the girls, so we all slept in late almost every day last week.  I love sleep!
  • We didn't go anywhere for the break, but we did have some fun at home.  One night we went to dinner and ice skating as a family.  Everyone loved that activity!  In fact, they've been begging to go again.  Another day I took the girls to see "Mirror Mirror."  (It didn't quite live up to my high hopes, but it was a decent movie.  And we had popcorn.)
  • I went to lunch and strolled through City Creek with my friend, Lindsay.
  • Doug commented to a friend that we hadn't had a home cooked meal for quite a while, and it's true.  I didn't do much cooking last week!  I usually enjoy cooking because I enjoy eating, but I don't enjoy the mess it makes!  That's what I like to take a break from!
  • We had some really nice weather!  Sunny and warm, bordering on "hot."  My favorite!
  • Katelyn and Emily made a delicious breakfast for my birthday, while I slept in.  (And of course they cleaned it all up, too!)
  • Doug took me on a fun birthday date.  He had big plans (snowmobiling), which didn't work out, but we had a good time anyway.  When he takes time off work to hang out with me, I really appreciate that.
  • Last but not at all least, I got what I wanted for my birthday: a pool!

So I'm not really looking forward to my next birthday, but I am looking forward, more than ever, to SUMMER!!!
